two lies
Satan is crafty. There are a couple lies I see - evident in my own life all the time - that were in the passages I was reading:1) "Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, 'Did God really say, "You must not eat from any tree in the garden"?'"
- Genesis 3:1
I hear this voice all the time. Rationalizing sin - thinking to myself, "did God really say that? Do I really need to do that? Where does it say that?", when I know clearly in my conscience the truth.
2) "'If you are the Son of God,' [the devil] said, 'throw yourself down. For it is written: "He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."' Jesus answered him, 'It is also written, "Do not put the Lord your God to the test."'"
- Matthew 4:6-7
This is why we need to know the Word. Not just some out-of-context verse, but the whole thing. Even Satan knows what's written in it, and he will use it against us... half-truths are more dangerous than flat out lies. The deceiver knows that.
