coming around

There's no way to make people really come around to experience the fullness of life in Christ. All we can do is live it out and show them. As I talked to a few people yesterday just about what they believe in and what they live for, I realize that for most people, death is not even on their minds, and neither is really living for that matter. They are too preoccupied with the to-dos, the arguments, the debates, and the science behind everything.

And I struggle, exactly because I found that I have to question what is coming after this life. After people hit the age of retirement, they have nothing to do but gaze as to what is coming, as to what that light at the end of the tunnel really is, and how to get there. Seems that age has come very prematurely for me. It is a blessing to live knowing God, but I sometimes see it as a curse to have to constantly consider things that others have no worry for.

  1. i agree, i think there's a lot of people that would be content with the to-dos, the arguments, the debates, the science behind everything.

sometimes i ask myself though, do i really know a truth that much greater? aka, the privilege i have of telling people the gospel, does it really set people free? what if people just want to sit and live in a caged life?

of course, i don't really believe that ignorance is bliss, but that just means i need to know the truth, the truth that is supposed to be the greatest news for everyone, for myself that much more.

  2. remember Mr. Corey? He had several near-death situations in his life before he realized that perhaps God was making Himself known in his life.

Maybe in this way we see more clearly why discomfort and disaster and crisis can actually be something to be thankful for (in that they force us to look "beyond). C.S. Lewis' "The Problem of Pain" talks precisely about that topic.

But to come back to the point, God in His mercy appears to give most (if not all) people some "jolts" out of their complacency. And those, in turn, can often be a window through which we can bring His real love and compassion clearly. Pray for the opportunity to be there when such a thing happens?
